Title: Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Design Engineer
Duties:
The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Design Engineer will work under supervision of a licensed professional engineer and perform following job duties:
1. Prepare plans for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Design projects, Signalization Design projects, Signing & Pavement Marking Design projects, Temporary Traffic Control Plan Design projects and Transportation Planning projects.
2. Research, compile and analyze data to develop complex reports, plans, and presentations associated with Traffic/ITS, Signing and Pavement Markings, Signalization, and Lighting projects.
3. Develop plans using MicroStation Connect, OpenRoads, SS10, Synchro, GuideSIGN and other auxiliary software.
4. Check design plans, design calculations, or cost estimations to ensure completeness, accuracy, or conformity to engineering standards or practices.
5. Perform operational analysis in the field to evaluate existing conditions of and potential future proposed conditions for fiber optics, signal cables, conduits, traffic cabinets, pull boxes, ITS devices, among other infrastructures.
6. Investigate traffic problems and recommend methods to improve traffic flow or safety.
7. Design or prepare plans for new transportation systems or parts of systems, such as highways, streets, or roadway lighting.
8. Develop signal timing for new and existing traffic signals using Synchro Version 11.
9. Preparing transportation related conceptual designs for clients, as required.
10. Providing support for technical studies related to traffic engineering, including Traffic/ITS, Signing and Pavement Markings, signalization, lighting, Traffic Impact Analysis, Pedestrian and Bicycle Crossing Studies.
11. Conducting on-site visits for data collection to determine existing conditions and perform quality control (QA/QC) of projects.
Travel Requirements: Only incidental domestic travel is required for this position.
Education: U.S. Master of Civil Engineering with major in Transportation
Experience: Six (6) months of experience in the job offered, or as a Public Works Engineer, Roadway Project Engineer, or a closely related occupation. Experience to include 6 months of experience in:
• Working with ITS systems and devices such as Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), vehicle detection, and travel time systems, and their functions.
• Development of safety plans for roadways, by identifying correctable crash trends and developing appropriate roadway modifications.
Skill/Knowledge: Evidence of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).

Job Description
In this role, you will assist the team by performing various traffic engineering and ITS assignments, participating in business development activities, and serving as Project Manager or Task Lead on various engineering and studies.
Primary Responsibilities
• Perform traffic engineering tasks, including but not limited to traffic signal design, signing and marking, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) planning and design.
• Perform data collection, traffic studies, analyze travel times, and provide recommendations for improvements.
• Business development related activities, including pursuing new projects, writing proposals, creating budgets, and developing scopes for projected work.
• Project coordination, including scheduling, and other administrative duties.
• Work with other engineers to ensure project completion on time and within budget.
• Work with the Principals to ensure that all projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Communicate and coordinate with clients to discuss project status and technical elements, while maintaining a high level of customer service.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Engineering or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Florida PE or ability to obtain one.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and technical writing skills.
• Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently, balance priorities among multiple projects, and communicate and collaborate effectively and courteously across all organization levels.
• High level of attention to detail.
• MicroStation ORD experience preferred.

Job Description
As a Senior Traffic Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering exciting projects for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), local agencies, and private developers. Your role will involve leading traffic engineering tasks, managing projects, driving business development, and communicating with clients. You will oversee or assist with traffic signal design, signing and pavement marking, lighting design, as well as traffic impact, operations, and safety studies.

Responsibilities
• Manage and/or prepare traffic analysis and design projects of varying sizes, focusing on budget and schedule
• Prepare cost estimates, reports and technical memos
• Track upcoming project opportunities and engage with clients to gather insights
• Draft letters of interest and Technical Proposal sections
• Participate in shortlist interviews
• Collaborate with other engineers and consultants
• Communicate project status and technical details with clients
• Represent VIBE at industry events
• Direct the activities of junior engineers
• Participate in office-wide, social, and volunteering events
• Perform Quality Control on products prepared by others
Requirements
• B.S. Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering (or equivalent)
• 8-10+ years of experience
• Licensed PE in the state of FL (or ability to obtain within 6 months by reciprocity)
• Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills
• Experience in traffic engineering design and studies
• Proficiency in MicroStation
• Proficiency with traffic analysis tools such as Synchro/SimTraffic, and HCS
Preferred Requirement
• PTOE Certification
• Involvement in the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE)
• Signal timing or ITS experience
• FDOT Experience
